7 Days Ethiopia Classic Historic Route & Harar

Explore Ethiopia's rich past on a journey that reveals its incredible history. 


Your stops include the grand castles and churches of Gondar, the breathtaking scenery of the Simien Mountains, and the vibrant city of Addis Ababa with its many museums and cultural sites. 


You'll also marvel at Lalibela's unique rock-hewn cathedrals and discover Harar in eastern Ethiopia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its ancient architecture, lively culture, and unique African-Islamic blend. 



7 Days Ethiopia Classic Historic Route & Harar

Day 1 Addis Ababa


Arrival at Bole International Airport. Warm reception by LET guide and driver, you will be transferred to your hotel.

City tour of Addis Ababa including the panoramic view point Entoto Mountain, and Red Terror Martyr’s Museum, Merkato, said to be Africa’s largest market of its kind, and the National Museum (home of Lucy, a partial hominid skeleton dating back 3.2 million years) and the Ethnographic museums.

Day 2 Addis Ababa to Gonder


Early the morning you will fly to Gondar. Explore the sites of Gondar, including a visit to the Royal Enclosure, with six castles and several other buildings. Additionally, visit Fasilidas’s Pool, still used for Timket celebrations today, Debre Birhan Selassie church, with the most famous ceiling in Ethiopia and Kuskuam, a former palace in a partial state of ruin overlooking the ancient city of Gondar.

Day 3 Excursion to Siemen Mountain


In the morning you will drive from Gonder to Siemen Mountain. The Semen national park is register as UNESCO world heritage site. The highest mountain in Ethiopia Ras Dashen is also found in the semen national park. The park is home of mountainous and wild animal species like the Walya Ibex and Chelada baboon which are endemic in Ethiopia. This is an ideal place to do some trekking to the most beautiful place with panoramic views.

Up on arrival you will hike up to Senkaber and will gain your first impression of the scale and beauty of this highland region, the extraordinary scenery, enjoying the endemic Gelada Baboons and the bone breaker giant bird Lammergeyer roaring around.

Day 4 Lalibela

In the morning, take the flight to Lalibela, the most famous of all of the Ethiopian historical sites. Begin to explore the 11 rock-hewn churches of the remarkable king Lalibela, visiting the Northwestern Cluster of churches - Bet Medhane Alem, Bet Maryam, Bet Meskel, Bet Danaghel, Bet Mikael & Bet Golgotha.

Day 5 Lalibela to Addis Ababa


In the morning, visit the Southeastern Cluster of churches – Bet Gabriel-Rufael, Bet Merkorios, Bet Amanual, and Bet Abba Libanos. Finally, visit the most famous of all the churches – Bet Giyorgis, a huge monolith in the shape of a cross, and constructed in honor of St. George, the patron saint of Ethiopia.

After visit take a flight to Addis Ababa. Afternoon you will have the remaining sightseeing in Addis Ababa.

Day 6 Addis Ababa to Harar

In the Morning take a flight to Dire Dawa. Upon arrival drive to Harar and up on arrival depend of the time you will visit same attraction of Harar and at night visit the Hyena Men who feed the hyenas every night just outside the walls of the city. You can even give a try at feeding the hyenas – with your mouth!

Day 7 Harar to Addis Ababa

In the morning explore the walled city of Harar. With its colorful markets, countless mosques and shrines, and unique Harari people and houses

Afternoon visit the last places of interest in Harar including the Arthur Rimbaud Cultural Center, named after the famous poet and traveler who resided in Harar for a portion of his life.

late afternoon Transfer to Dire Dawa airport and fly back to Addis Ababa.

In the evening, farewell party with cultural dinner and traditional special buffet and local drinks to experience Ethiopia’s cultural meals and drinks.
